The images above are of the brand new, first-and-only career spanning retrospective of the “satirist prankster”, Italian contemporary artist Maurizio Cattelan, and it’s a doozy. Entitled Maurizio Cattelan: All, it’s staged and hung as a site specific installation in it’s own right, Cattelan working closely with the Guggenheim to create an amazing, one-of-a-kind experience that not only celebrates his decades of work but also speaks to it’s futility. Comparisons have been made to lynched prisoners, and hanging pieces of meat, Maurizio no doubt was making yet another statement about modern art’s role in our everyday lives. I can’t wait to see this in person, and travel up and down the ramps taking it all in.
Maurizio Cattelan: All is on display at the Guggenheim until January 22, 2012. Read more about the exhibit here.
